Kadion visits the Venice of the North, Amsterdam!
XX Anniversari Kadion
In the Dutch capital there are literally more bicycles than residents and this is just one of the curiosities that we discovered during the weekend riding around the city, the bikes have priority even over pedestrians!
On the occasion of the XX Anniversary of KADION We landed in the city of Amsterdam, and if there is one thing they know about, it is bridges! We walked along its famous canals and discovered other architectural curiosities of what was originally a small fishing village that went on to dominate the maritime trade of Europe in the XVI-XVII centuries.
On the first day, we enjoyed the experience of entering a Windmillwhere they are manufacturespigments, “De Kat”, still working! In the city Zaanse Schans, only 10 kms from Amsterdam. The traditional way in which pigments were made for many centuries was to use the power of the wind to turn huge granite rocks for grinding.
We also visited the factories of other typical Dutch products, one of them a cheese factory, dWe tasted all kinds of cheeses (even a Lavender blue cheese!); and we had the opportunity to see live how the cheeses are made the typical wooden clogs. On our way back to Amsterdam we could not miss a bike ride through its streets, a real experience… and at night, as you have already guessed, a visit to the famous red light district was a must.
The next day we follow the trail of the Dutch Golden Age, from the headquarters of the East India Company (of vital importance even in today’s economy). We enter the Jewish quarter, where terrible episodes took place during the Nazi occupation, and where we also find the house of the most important artist of the entire Dutch Golden Age, the painter Rembrandt Van Rijn.
It is complicated to define tourism in Amsterdam, since as they explained to us, not being of ostentatious character it is not a city with an overwhelming amount of monuments, however, Amsterdam is known for being the most liberal city in Europe, and definitely worth a visit!
A great experience and a weekend to remember, we look forward to celebrating the 25th, 30th and 10th anniversaries of KADION.
