These are the most used colorants in the paper industry because they are relatively cheap and have a great affinity with mechanical pulps and unbleached cellulose, which are highly anionic materials.

These are colorants derived from sulfonic, carboxyl or phenolic hydroxyl groups. They are more soluble in water than other types of dyes. This good solubility in water makes them very appropriate for surface coloring.

They have a direct affinity for cellulose. Direct dyes are less soluble than acid dyes and have a softer color than basic dyes.

Presented in liquid form. High concentration. They are inert and compatible with other additives. They show maximum light fastness and bleeding. Good dispersion in water. Saturated colors can be obtained using a retention agent.
