New Antioxidant for Engineering Plastics

REVONOX 608 – CHITEC

Would a conventional antioxidant work in polymers such as polycarbonate, polyester or even polyamides (NYLON)?

The most recommended are secondary antioxidants (AOs), which decompose hydroperoxides and are phosphorus-based, as they are highly efficient thanks to their strong affinity for peroxides through hydrogen bonding.

However, most of these antioxidants have poor hydrolytic stability because they form phosphoric acid when exposed to water, which can cause damage to processing equipment.

To overcome this limitation, CHITEC has developed REVONOX 608, whose structure features a high phosphorus content (Spiro phosphates), ensuring excellent hydrolytic stability while maintaining outstanding thermal stability, allowing it to retain its properties at temperatures above 280°C.

As a result, discolouration is significantly reduced. Even better performance is achieved when used together with a primary antioxidant (AO), which is responsible for scavenging free radicals.
